There are many things that I love about the coaching industry and about online business in general, but there is absolutely no denying that there are also a few things on my list of things I wish I could change.

And that’s exactly what this episode is all about. We’re diving into that list.

3 THINGS I WISH I COULD CHANGE about the coaching industry

1) You Do Not Need To Go Into Debt For Your Dream

Top of the list is the idea that you need to go into debt, to pay for a coach so that the universe will see that you’re investing in yourself and guarantee you a 10 X return on that investment.

You can be woo, woo, you can trust in the universe, I certainly do, but saying that just because you spend money, you’re guaranteed to get a 10 X return is a very, very harmful piece of messaging. Anytime we guarantee a result and, in this case, guarantee a result based on nothing that that coach provides, it’s really misleading [00:15:00] and really harmful in general. 

Statements like these do not account for the extreme amount of variables that go into somebody’s online success. So, make sure you are wary of people who speak in such definitives, specifically in the business space because nobody really knows. 

Only time can tell whether something is going to work for someone, whether an investment is going to yield a return, whether an investment is going to be a good investment or a bad investment. But, when claims are made eluding to the fact that we must invest in our dream (no matter the cost) in order to make it happen, it takes the responsibility off of everybody except for the universe.

If you are not 100% sure that the exact thing that you’re teaching is going to work for every single person who tries it, then we can’t speak so definitively about a [00:22:30] particular strategy because then the people that come into that space and it doesn’t work for take that responsibility on themselves and develop these limitations and limiting beliefs, like something is wrong with them because what they think, whether it’s consciously or subconsciously is if it worked for everyone else there must be something wrong with me.

“It’s the way that I look. It’s the way that I sound. It’s that people don’t like me. I’m not interesting enough. I’m not smart enough. I’m not good enough.”

Let’s normalize statements that position work as a strategy that people can try, that has worked for others but that we can’t guarantee will work for everyone! Instead, let’s guarantee that there’s something out there that will work for everyone, whether it’s our services, products, programs, or someone else’s!

2) You Should Not Have To Pay To Be In Someone’s “Energy”

“The energy is not asking for the price. It’s wanting to be in my energy. No matter the cost. And if you don’t like that, you’re not my person.”

Why does it have to be one or the other? Why does it have to be either you love me so much that you’ll pay anything to be in my energy OR here are my prices so you can make an educated choice (and succeed anyway.)

We have such a culture in this industry of money mindset. Of helping people be at peace with their money, feel comfortable with their money. And then we go and set up these scenarios that create doubt and mistrust within people.

We hear so few people talking about creating an excellent customer experience, like how to actually help a customer. It’s all about how to have a 10K month, how to have a hundred thousand dollars launch, how to do this, how to do that, how to take, take, take, take, [00:34:30] take, like why isn’t there more coaches out there that are teaching people how to give? 

This is why so many people come into the space and they can’t sustain it for 5, 10, 15 years. 

Making decisions that are aligned for YOU starts with really understanding what success looks like to you as an individual.

[00:36:30] It’s so easy to get caught up in this rat race of financial milestones. Whenever you need to ground yourself sit down and work out how little money you ACTUALLY need to live an incredible, incredible life. Everyone thinks they need a million dollars but very few people actually do. If you actually sit down and think about all of the things that you would want, or that you would like for your next level life, I guarantee you it’s way less money than you actually think it is. 

Do it for yourself. Sit down, figure out what your dream life looks like. Then work towards that. I promise it will be so much more motivating in the long run, so much more sustainable. Once that number is clear in your mind, you can then shift your focus to the things that matter, like providing a really good service, creating really good content, helping people, starting a movement, achieving something bigger than yourself, creating a legacy, whatever it looks like.

3) Passive Income Is Not Necessary For a Successful Business

A course or any other form of passive income will not save your business [00:41:30].

A lot of times people go into service-based businesses and, at some point, come across somebody saying, “oh my gosh, I made a million dollars in my course launch! I didn’t have to do anything because it’s already made and it’s all passive. So you should make a course too!” But what they DON’T talk about is [00:42:00] what goes into creating a course, launching a course, and then continuing to profit off of said course – the profit margin is vastly different than a service-based business. 

Coaching when it’s done right, offers teachings, [00:49:30] accountability, & support, no matter the vehicle it’s delivered in. When we focus on these things, that’s when we flourish and grow [00:50:00]. Why can’t coaching just be about helping people achieve their goals? Why can’t the focus be on what happens AFTER the sale, rather than before?
