Self-Love Advice (Taking Myself on a Date)

I’ve spent a lot of time working on my relationship with myself.

I think to a certain degree, we all innately love ourselves and want to take care of ourselves. But having a healthy relationship with yourself, to me, is about so much more than that. It’s about liking yourself, wanting to spend time with yourself, feeling proud of who you are, and actually enjoying your own company.

Because, at the end of the day, you are the person who is going to be there for you for the rest of your life. And if you don’t have a good time with yourself and a good relationship with yourself, the rest of time can feel like a really, really, really long sentence.

One of the biggest barriers to us actually liking ourselves is our inner critic. That voice inside our head that’s constantly telling us that we’re not good enough, we can’t do the things that we want to do or that we shouldn’t want the things that we want.

So, if you want to have a better relationship with yourself, you really want to make sure you’re working on managing those inner critical thoughts.

  1. First, you need to become super aware of these thoughts.

  2. Find a way to actually dismantle those thoughts so that you can prove to yourself that they’re not actually true (because rarely are they).

  3. Make sure you are replacing those thoughts with more positive ones.

I’ve spoken a lot l about how I’m a huge, huge fan of mirror work.

This is something that I do incredibly, incredibly regularly because I think it’s just such a beautiful way to build your relationship with yourself and to remove those inner critical thoughts.

So, if you really, really want to work on building a better relationship with yourself, make sure that you’re not letting those negative thoughts run wild and that you are speaking more positively to yourself.

One of the things that I think is super, super important when you are spending your time with yourself is that you are really mindful.

It’s really easy to get distracted and go on your phone. It’s really easy to get distracted and call someone or just get lost in thought during this process. Be really mindful and just really, really embody the relationship you’re developing with yourself.

When you’re building your relationship with yourself, learn to listen to your gut. Don’t always do things based on what society tells you, what your family tells you or what your friends tell you, or what would look best. Always go for what would FEELS best.

Learning to listen to what feels good for you. Not what looks good, not what you should do, but what actually really feels good for you.

I think a lot of people think of self-love and immediately associate it with those self-care acts that you can do. Whether it be skincare or having a bath or getting a massage, if you’re pampering yourself and being hypercritical of yourself or saying negative things or worrying or stressing out, it defeats the purpose.

If the relationship that you have with yourself, the talk, the way that you communicate with yourself isn’t positive, isn’t loving nature then it’s kind of missing the point.

And so if you are trying to build a better relationship with yourself, yes, do all these beautiful things, do your skincare, do your bath massage, go for a walk all the stuff that you see people talking about online, but make sure that you are doing it from a space of just wanting to truly connect with yourself and with your body.

Don’t just do these things that you see online. Self-love is all about the relationship that you have with yourself and it’s going to come in the form of how you take care of yourself, how you treat yourself, how you speak to yourself. That is what’s going to determine how good of a relationship you have with yourself.
