how I take notes + bullet journal to-do list on my iPad

What I want to show you today, is exactly how I take notes and how I use my iPad to bullet journal.

Really, what this video was inspired by was a question I was asked about how I am able to consistently create so much content and so many courses. And, really, what I think they wanted to know was how I retain so much information and how I am able to learn so much.

And, honestly, it really comes down to note-taking.

Anytime I am watching a video, webinar, or really learning anything that is going to help my content or my business, I make sure that I take notes.

And, in this video, I wanted to show you exactly how I do that.

HOW I TAKE NOTES TO LEARN MORE

The process I use to take notes is really based around lists. I am a person that learns a lot via lists. I love watching list video, I love creating list videos, and I love checklists (because that’s how I get stuff done).

So when I’m taking notes, it’s in that same format. I’m just listing out all the really important things that stand out to me from the piece of content that I’m learning from so that I can come back and revisit it later.

But, i like to jazz it up in ways that make it look pretty and maybe even with some diagrams because that ultimately is going to make me want to refer to them even more. I used to take really messy notes and I would never actually be inspired to revisit them.

1. A NICE TITLE

The first thing that I do is essentially create a really nice title header for my notes. Again, because taking the time to make my notes aesthetically pleasing makes it way more likely that I’ll be inclined to come back and refer to them in the future.

Whether it’s in my notes or in my daily checklists, making this little extra effort makes me feel good about what I’m doing and gets me excited to follow through on my learnings or tasks.

2. LIST IT OUT

And then, as I mentioned, I’ll proceed to create subheadings and bullet points for each theme, lesson, and piece of information that stand out to me as important or relevant.

It’s about pulling out the things that are important to you, the things that give you goosebumps.

I think this is the part of note-taking that a lot of people stress themselves out with, “Which parts do I need to note down?”. And, I think it’s important that you trust your intuition on this. Particularly when it comes to things related to your personal development and your business.

Write down the things that really resonate with you, because those are the things that you’re most likely going to want to use for your own business and share with your own audience.

3. SHARE WHAT YOU LEARN

The bullets and lessons I take from the pieces of content that really inspire me leaves me with so many ideas for content in my own business and ideas with which I can mesh my own experiences and share with my audience.

I can’t advocate enough how much taking notes has helped me to become the person that I am today because humans only have the capacity to remember very few select things. And, when you have all of this stressors and decisions you’re making on a day-to-day basis, it is incredibly difficult for you to really absorb the information.

So give your mind a break and put the things you learn somewhere you know you can access at any time.

It’s just going to allow you to get so much more out of things you’re actually spending your time learning. How many times have you watched a video or listened to a podcast, and then an hour later couldn’t even remember what it was about?

Our brains just aren’t built that way, we really need to be focused on what we are learning, and note-taking is just one of the best ways to do that.
