Self Care Ritual for Entrepreneurs

In this video, I want to talk about something that I don’t think gets talked about enough. That is how to truly take care of yourself as an entrepreneur.

There are plenty of videos out there on how to practice self-care and as I mentioned in one of my previous videos on self-care – those videos tend to be more tailored to pampering and taking care of your physical body.

What I want to address in this video is how to have self-care for your mind.

As an entrepreneur it is easy to become overwhelmed and overworked which leads to burn out. Believe me when I say that it’s impossible to go out there and make an income and impact when you feel like crap.

I created this video to remind you why you MUST take care of your mind and your body as an entrepreneur.

Practices That Have Nothing to do with Your Business

These who hustle or preach the 24/7 hustle mentality are simply ridiculous.

We are human beings and are not built to work every second of everyday – we are supposed to work and then rest. It’s all about balance and knowing what it is that takes your mind off building your business so that you can truely rest and recuperate.

Even things that involve self-development like listening to a podcast or learning a language, aren’t really down time. You need proper down time to switch off completely and enjoy some “mind-numbing” time.

Even Tony Robbins switches off by watching Family Guy! Everyone need something to allow their brains to switch off and regenerate.

Take Time Away From People

You need to have time to be by yourself and enjoy your own company.

As entrepreneurs we are always giving our time and efforts to others and this takes a lot of our own energy. Have time every single day away from all people – even if you have children and responsibilities (which we all do) just give yourself five minutes to take a bath or go for a walk around the block so you don’t have to answer to anyone and you can continually show up for your business as the best version of yourself.

Create Space for Happy Thoughts

As entrepreneurs we naturally judge and critique our own work, which can be good if your working on improving your work BUT you also need to focus on the good in yourself. To practice self-care I like to create a self-love list full of what I love about myself – to truely get away from the criticism.

Have a Solid Switch Off Routine

It’s essential for entrepreneurs to have a really solid transition between when you’re working and when you’re switching off from work.

Make sure when you’re hustling hard that you have indicators of when it’s time to switch off – taking my dog Harvey for a walk each night is a trigger for me. It’s the perfect thing to do that indicates ok it’s time to rest and switch off for the night.

Having Something to look Forward To

Something that is NOT work related.

This could be anything that you look forward to but it must have nothing to do with work. This could be a getaway with your partner or your family, it could be a concert with friends or an expedition that you’re going on alone.

Whatever it is for you – have something to look forward to, book in the tickets, put it in your calendar and get excited for it!

Realise When Enough is Enough

My final tip and probably the most important one is to know when enough is enough.

The reason people get to a stage of burn out is because they don’t realise when they’re starting to burn out. If you lacking energy passion or motivation, for something that used to be your passion then you might be starting to burn out.

If you’re struggling to wake up in the morning or going to be early and falling asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow then you may be edging towards burn out. You shouldn’t be so exhausted that your head is hitting the pillow and you’re falling straight asleep.

At the end of last year my eating habits were horrible and I didn’t want to move or workout and those were really telling signs that I was getting close to burn out. If you can feel your energy starting to dwindle then you need to recognise the signs and take some time off.

Taking the time to recharge and rest will allow you to up-level and rekindle your passion for your work and creativity.
